Honda CRZ oil has short life

My new Honda CRZ EX just needed its first oil change at only 2900 miles - My dealership even expressed some concern that the oil was breaking down so fast since they expected it to last 5 to 10 thousand miles. I did call consumer support at Honda and they were unable to offer any explanation other than "it varies." But this cost me 88 dollars! I do feel that the company should offer to have some diagnostics run at their expense.
