Dishonest sales people and lying management

My problem Started June 13. We went to Burt to buy a car and decided on a 2003 Wrx. We talked the salesmen into dropping the price of the car by 2,500 and raising the trade in value to 10,500 witch was a 3,500 discount in witch we deservered because we were there haggling with the man for 6 hours.

We filled out all the neccessary paper work and paid for the car in full. About a month after we got the title clear of all leans I got a phone call from Warren Smith the man who helped us fill out the paperwork. He asked if I had a receipt for the 3,500 and I told him no but I had a paper stating how much we had paid and that it said paid in full, but that wasn't good enough. He said that we still owed 3,500 and he needed it immediatly.

I waited until monday to call Burts corperate offices and spoke to Jennifer Held she said she would look over the paperwork and get back to me the next day she called back and said that everything looks good, but she needed to talk with he business manager to find out why they called me and wanted 3,500 so it took about 3 days for her to call me back and when she did she said that she was wrong and they needed to collect immediatly or they would repo the car. When I asked how she figured she said that they put 3,500 as a deposit for the car. Now why would I pay a deposit when I paid for the car in full on the day of delivery? So I tried to contact lawyers but trying to find a lawyer that deals with this kind of situation is almost impossible.

So on August 2 I got a letter from Burts lawyer giving me a month to pay or they would take us to court. I replied to their letter stating what had happened as far as the 3,500 should have come from but appearently they didn't like my response because 3 days later I got suppenoed.

Finally I got a lawyer to talk to me and his response was "well it's a 50% chance" because we didn't get anything in writing when they dropped the price and raised the trade in we really didn't have any proof. So our choices were to either pay Burt the 3,500 or take the risk of losing and having to pay the 3,500 their lawyers fee, our lawyers fee, and court costs. So we ended up giving in and paying Burt like a bunch of idiots.

My advice to anyone buying a car make sure that you get everything in writing and I mean EVERYTHING. So your not takin advantage of like us!
