Murphy Oil Corporation
Ripoff BAD FUEL If Murphy Oil was the only source for diesel fuel I would buy a gasoline powered vehicle

Cars & Transport

23 Aug I purchased diesel fuel from Wal-Mart/Murphy Oil. My wife and I filled up within a day of each other of this last purchase.

On 26-Aug my truck failed to start after stopping engine to place an order at Whataburger with my grandchildren

On 27-Aug I put the truck in the shop at Kingwood Dodge I received a call from shop that fuel was contaminated. I went to shop and got another sample pulled directly from the tank while I witnessed it. I went to the station where I made the last fuel purchase & discussed the problem with the store and got a number 493-5925 to call

On 28-Aug I called Cedric Coleman, district manager, who didn't sound positive. I located a fuel tester and took the sample to their lab in Houston, Texas

On 29-Aug my discussion on my arrival with them led me to believe it quite possibly contained gasoline. I pulled a sample from wife's truck and found similiar looking fuel, and drained the tank, and replaced the fuel & filters. I called Cedric again to let him know that both trucks had yellow fuel and my wife has never bought fuel anywhere but Walmart since this station opened. He indicated this didn't sound good, but said he couldn't find any problems at the store, and suggested I mistakely bought grabbed the wrong nozzle and introduced the gasoline myself. I asked him why my reciepts indicated they were diesel. He couldn't explain that. I indicated we were now concerned that my wife's truck may also have problems

On 1-Sep I picked up truck at the dealer. I talked to the dealer about the possibility of having a failure analysis done on the parts. He indicated they couldn't do it. I asked for the old parts and he indicated he couldn't give them to me and said I had to talk to parts since there was a core charge for the injector pump.

On 3 Sep I called Cedric and discussed the repair bill and he felt it was out of line and he wanted our fuel report. I went by the Dodge dealer to get old parts. I was given the transfer pump and had to put up a $ 1200 deposit for the injector pump, refundable when I returned it. I opted to locate the service first and let John to research having it done through Chrysler and billing me for it. I faxed reports to Cedric

On 5-Sep I called Cedric to discuss the claim -never returned call I called Cummins in Houston to find someone to do a failure analysis and given the name of company in Houston. The company they use for fuel injection repairs was unable to help since the technology is so new -possibly 5 months away but Keith indicated failure would result from loss of lubricity. I called another injection service they indicated worked on Cummins injection systems to no avail.

On 6-Sep I called Chrysler Daimler 800992-1997 (John) and they were unable to help with failure analysis, but recommended three companies in Houston, two which I had already spoke with. I emailed Cummins Corporation for failure analysis assistance.

On 07 Sep I called Walmart -Roy Espenoza and reviewed problems with Murphy Oil. He told me to call Jennifer Gray at 800 527 0566 X 20962. Left voice mail & she never called back

On 9-Sep I called 800 Walmart and was told to call 800 843 4398

On 10-Sep I spoke to Jackie D and she indicated I needed to called 281 493-5925 and after telling her Cedric wasn't helpful and was not returning calls & I wanted to talk to his superior or the CEO. She couldn't help me and then refused to give her name. I called 800 walmart again talked to Chris who indicated calling Jennifer was the wrong thing to do & indicated she would have an executive called the following day
I received an email response from Cummins that no one can do a failure analysis, but indicated gasoline would destroy the fuel injection system because of loss of lubricity

On 11-Sep No call came from Walmart, quite possibly because of NY disaster

On 12-Sep I called 800 WALMART. Roy Espenoza connected me with a Murphy Oil receptionist, who gave me 850 942-0168, and indicated she would have someone call me today. I received a call from Cherlyn Gibbons 800643-2364 ext 6781. She indicated I needed to fax documentation to Paul Wells 877-578-2352

On 12 Sep I sent faxes to Paul, then received a negative response from Paul, and responded again with additional information

On 14 Sep I received a call from Linda Turner from earlier message left for Jennifer Gray on Sept 9. She indicated everything I was asked to do was wrong. She asked that I file a product liability claim with Terry Williams, the Walmart Store manager in Cleveland. My wife did and had to use their computer to do the paperwork because their clerk was not able to

On 28 Sep I spoke with Linda Turner on status of claim. She indicated she sent it to Murphy Oil to process.indicated I should contact Hank Heithaus @ 800-643-2364

On 1 Oct I played phone tag with Hank

On 4 Oct I spoke with Hank. He needed documentation faxed to him @ 870-864-6361 He gave me an additional number to contact him 870-864-6284

On 7 Oct I faxed 23 pages of documents to Hank

On 9 Oct I called Hank to verify he received all the documents. Left voice mail

Tired of the runaround from Murphy Oil and Wal-Mart, on 11 Oct, I got filing instructions from court house for a small claims suit

On 12 Oct I called Hank Heithaus @ 870-864-6284. Left voice mail again, no response

On 14 Oct I called Linda Turner 800 527 0566. Left voice mail, no response

On 15 Oct I completed paperwork for small claims court

On 16 Oct I received a call from Hank's assistant while at the post office. Discussed my problems trying to resolve this. He indicated Hank was overseas and couldn't be reached, but wanted to let me know he was empowered to handle the claim, and he was going to deny it. I indicated I would see him in court, and mailed summons to sheriff in Arkansas

A few weeks later the Court notified me that the case was dismissed. I sought legal counsel and was informed the Court had given me the wrong filing information. I hired Richard Burroughs to pursue damages.

After two years Murphy finally settled the $3800 claim with a statement that no one else had this problem. There was several vehicles Kingwood Dodge with the same fuel as I had because the technician asked me to let him know what it was when I found out. My lawyer kept his 40%, so I didn't really didn't get made whole, but I have never purchased any diesel or gasoline products to this day. If Murphy Oil was the only source for diesel fuel I would buy a gasoline powered vehicle. I discovered during this ordeal that they have the worst product quality in the industry.incidently my fuel purchases during this period were averaging about $ 5000/month and I never made a mistake putting in the wrong fuel.
