Dmv no refund no returns

I purchased 5 year plates for a classic vehicle and then had to sell it 4 months after date of purchase due to unfortunate events. Tried to get refund for the remaining 4 years and 8 months of time i paid for on the plates.
DMV informed me that no refunds no returns are made what so ever. They did say I could transfer it to a purchase of another vehicle. Or credit it to a renewal.
I Don't need another vehicle, I don't need a renewal for 4 years and 2 months. I need my money back for the unused 4 years and 8 months of registered plates that are no longer in use because I sold the vehicle.in a world full of rip offs I guess I just have to add the DMV to the list.
