Service advisor Mark Mislead and misrepresented service. Failed to honor original contact

My air conditioner was not working on 1996 Olds. I explained to Mark that the car was old so I wanted the AC performance check done along with a oil change. The Ac performance check was 39.99. Mark told me that if my ac was OK it would cost me up 176.00 to charge it depending on how much freon I need. I made my nine o'clock appointment but it as almost 5pm before I found out that two hoses were bad. He said to fix them it would be 300.00. Against better my better judgement (i am 1 month away from being 70 and have a heart condition) because I wasn't feeling well I said OK repair. When I called next day to pick up car, I was told that after putting on the hoses they discovered a pin hole leak in compressor. Now to fix air it would cost me close to a thousand dollars. I asked how long the freon would last as I had used the car all the previous summer with two bad hoses and it had cold air. He was honest here and said there was no guarantee it would last any time at all. I chose not to spend 1000 dollars to repair as I felt the the 39.99 I paid was to find out what was wrong with Air conditioner. Mark informed me that that they no way of knowing the new hoses would cause the cylinder to develop a leak. My question was and still is then why is the point of paying 39.99 to see what your problems are if you are not going to stand behind your first assessment. I feel very cheated as I spend 5 minutes in the very beginning on how I knew of so many people who had car worked and the cost just kept going up. He assured me that the 39.99 test would prevent this. Well it didn't and I owe them 544.00 and the air conditioner doesn't ever work. It is worse than when I took it in.
