Incompetance and disregard for customers International - San Diego

My Honda Passport developed a transmission problem on August 20. I drove it into a local Honda Dealership in Santa Barbara, CA. They decided that they wanted nothing to do with this one so they recommended to my extended warranty company that it be towed to Aamco. It was kept in this center and supposedly repaired after 5 days. I was outraged as I was on a business trip away from home and incurred hotel and rental car expenses. Little did I know that my problems had just begun.

It is now October 23 and I still don't have the car.
Every time I get the car back, supposedly repaired, (by now my extended warranty company has paid Aamco, Santa Barbara $2500) the problem returns, only much worse. I live in San Diego, so I have taken the car to another Aamco center in San Diego. When I complain, they just complain back that they're not getting paid and that it's Santa Barbarbara's fault.

I am caught in the middle of this internal bickering while this situation is ruining my life and ruining my business, as I am a salesperson and I drive to accounts all over California, Arizona, and Nevada. I have accumulated nearly $1,000 in rental car expenses. I reported this incident to the California Department of Automotive Repair, the "watchdog" agency which supposedly exists to discipline unethical repair shops.

They have informed me that my only recourse to get my car back is to sue. Can this be true?
