Doug Screwed up and cheated me out of my money and parts

I bought a thermostat from Canadian Tire, I told them my make and model and they gave me the wrong one, I went back a few days later to return it but had lost the receipt. Even though they made the mistake and gave me the wrong one, they would not take it back, OR give me an instore credit unless I found the guy I bought it from? What is with that?
