SNAAC Taking advantage of young military soldiers!

Cars & Transport

I've read another complaint from an ex-sailor and I have to completely agree with this person. They described the scenario to a tee. SNAAC tends to prey on young military members who have just recently moved away from home and who possibly have no credit. SNAAC finances vehicles through small town dealerships working outside of training bases (mine in particular was located outside of Goodfellow AFB/San Angelo, TX - a base that is completely for AIT). My husband was training out at Goodfellow a couple of years ago, we had just gotten married and had already been without a car in this new town for 4 months. We were spending a ridiculous amount of money on taxi's, so we decided to buy our first vehicle. A few other AIT soldiers had mentioned this place called West Wheels (stay away!) and so we looked into it. After not doing much research, being young and niave, we bought a Mazda right off the bat. It turned out that this USED car was priced the same as a brand new Mazda. And even though we were told that having no credit was ok, our interest rate was still 18%. We thought that was normal with having no credit. Turns out that we could have gone through USAA and gotten a automatic 6% interest. But anyway, before buying the Mazda, we were told that we could afford the monthly cost, but having it two years later, we're hardly getting by with a $453.00 monthly bill. This car also turned out to need a brand new transmission a year later which put us out $1600. Lucky us. I've posted a report with the BBB on SNAAC and West Wheels. I HIGHLY suggest that if you're a young military soldier, do your research and go to a big dealership. Not some small town lot with only a few options to choose from. We regret ever signing with SNAAC and are paying for it big time!
