Credit card swiping raising red flags

I swiped my business gas card at the pump. The message read "see attendant inside." This is a new station and this was suspicious, so Red Flag #1.inside, at one of those new merchant credit card terminals sitting on the counter, I selected credit, swiped my card and entered my pin. The attendant had me to sign the printout and handed me a copy of the receipt.

But then the attendant asks me to hand her my credit card and my I.D. At this time, she lays my card flat down on one of those older model merchant credit card machines and slides the handle back and forth making an imprint of my credit card info. Her machine, by the way, had no electrical cord, so it wasn't plugged in and it wasn't digital. Red Flag #2. She returned my credit card and my I.D. But I had to ask her for the receipt from the imprint. She snaps, "Well, if you have to have it, okay, " and gave it to me. Red Flag #3.

I filled my car up to a point, but not where I needed it, so I decided to get more gas. I swiped my card at the pump and, miraculously, the pump was working and I got extra gas. Now this throws up Red Flag #4.

I am an investigator and although I was in a hurry I had to question this suspicious activity. The attendant said she was following orders. "The company tells me to do that, and I just do what the company tells me to do."

The attendant is Rosa, the company's phone number is 1-800-429-0702. While I reported the incident to the proper authorities, it serves to put them on notice.
