Nemet Auto Center
Paid $1000 to them in repairs for NOTHING! Fraudulent ripoff business

Cars & Transport

On June 5th, Thursday, I brought my 1994 (85,000 miles) 940 Volvo into Nemet for the following repairs for the 1st time:

1. Fuel dumping. There was excessive fumes coming out of my exhust and I was getting very low milage from the car.

2. Car idles on acceleration. This occurs sporadically.

They informed me that I will have to leave my car here overnight because they are other cars that needs to be serviced. I agreed since I was on vacation.

On June 6th, Friday, I called Nemet to check the status of my car. They inform me the problems I was having was due to:

Engine speed sensor
Pressure regulator
Power units
Oil filter
New gasket
New spark plugs
Retainer
& other cleaning assessories for oil change, due to containmnation of fuel dumping.

Then they inform me that my timing belt was off, which could also be a cause to my idling/fuel dumping problem.

Total Parts for the repair: $377.59

Then to top everything off with labor: $552.50
Tax: $80.22. Grand total: $1010.30

Labor hours for Volvo is at $85/hour.
They spent a total of 6.5 hours on my Volvo.

On my way home, I started to smell the fumes again and begin to be skeptical about whether my vechicle was repaired or not. After driving 10 miles, I noticed my fuel gauge was still decreasing and the problem was obviously not solved. Since they were closed for the weekend, I had to wait until Monday, June 9th to express my concerns to them. They didn't pick up so I left a message. They never called back.

Due to my tight schedule, I finally got to drop off my car there today, July 7th. They brought in my car and acknowledge the previous problem.

Four hours later, they informed me that I have to switch out my main computer (ECM) and replace an oxygen sensor, in addition to labor, which will cost me $1300 for the fuel dumping/car idling problem.

I was extremely angry with that recommendation since assuming that $1000 that was spent a month ago should of solved the issue. The $1000 was spent because they told me that it will solve the problem. If the ECM and the oxygen sensor was the cause of the whole issue, why didn't they recommend that to me in the first place? Why did they switch out all the other sensors that may or may not be relevent to the repair?

Finally, they express to me that they will work with me to give me a discounted price on the parts and labor. That is the best thing they can do for me at this point. I am not satisfied with that solution. I have no car at this point, no way to get to work, and that $1000 didn't solve a thing.

I hope you readers out there will think about my experience before you go to that service center for ANYTHING.
