Legacy Toyota Of Union City
Ripoff tricked and lied to us ripoff deceptive company

Cars & Transport

I was the victim of misrepresentation by Legacy Toyota of Union City.

I attempted to purchase a car on Saturday, May 26. My credit is less than perfect (fits in 'car club' category).

After my credit was pulled, I was not told that I would not be able to purchase the car that I was considering. Neither was I told to consider any other car on the lot.

I purchased insurance through Progressive in the amount of $324.00 for the initial premium. I wrote a check for $99.00 as a downpayment to Legacy. The salesman's (Thomas) boss was working on figures.

I met with a Mr. Gregory Anthony in Finance to complete paperwork, was given the keys to car, a voucher for a tank of gas and after the car was detailed, I drove off the lot.

On Monday, May 5, Mr. Anthony called to say that the bank that was considering financing the car would do so only if I had a co-signer. I told Mr. Anthony that I was not sure that I would be able to do this (I knew this would only cause further damage to my credit in the event of something unforeseen.) and would probably need to return the vehicle.

After all was said and done, I made arrangements with Mr. Anthony for the vehicle to go back to the dealership. I also made arrangements with Mr. Anthony to get a refund of my downpayment. Shortly after, I started to receive denial letters in the mail from various credit companies.

As it turned out Legacy shopped me with at least seven (7) credit companies to get financing for the car knowing that each credit inquiry would cause further damage to my credit (that's a Catch 22). It became obvious that Legacy was more interested in completing a deal no matter what.

There was no concern shown for my credit; No suggestions of purchasing an older car since my credit was a problem. The dealership was too greedy to tell me that they would or could not sell me a car and that perhaps, I should try to buy a car with cash until I built up my credit.

As a result, they caused a financial hardship to me for the entire month of May; I purchased unnecessary insurance for a car they knew was not completely financed; they led me to believe that everything was fine (this was my first experience with this practice); and then allowed me to take a car they should not have sold to me in the first place.

The irony is that they welcome you into the 'Toyota Family' after a sale is complete. What a front, a deceptive show, a facade. This has caused me to become much more cautious and suspicious of dealerships here in Atlanta (I am originally from California) and it will be a while before I venture out to purchase the vehicle that I go greatly need.

After sharing my Legacy experience with others, I have spoken with other individuals who are also familiar with the reputation of this dealerships.

If you need a vehicle, please avoid Legacy Toyota of Union City unless you can beat them at their own game!
