Tires Plus
Simple oil change to paying $350 to get back a car that doesn't run!

Cars & Transport

I brought my car in to have a basic oil change and a front end alignment. I received a call from Tires Plus stating that in order to do the alignment, I would need an idle arm replaced. I agreed to have them go ahead and do the work since it needed done. So I went from thinking I would be spending around $50 since I had coupons to spending almost $350, and now I have a vehicle that doesn't run.

I had the work done on a Thursday, and by Friday evening, my car was running very rough. I had my friend look at my car on Saturday since he is a mechanic and he thought that changing the spark plugs and wires would help my vehicle; unfortunately, it didn't do any good.

My car was sounding worse at this piont and my Engine light came on. So I called Tires Plus on Saturday and told them my issue - I brought my car in on Thursday to have work done and now my car barley wants to run. They told me to bring it back to them on Sunday.

So now it is into day 3 on Sunday... I bring my car to Tires Plus like they told me; unfortunately, they only had one mechanic on duty, so I left my car there. Later on Sunday evening, I get a call from Tires Plus stating that I need a whole new distributor and it would cost me $500 on top of the $350 I just paid them last Thursday.

Well, I wasn't going to pay that kind of money for a distributor since my friend could replace it for around $100. So I went on Monday afternoon to pick up my car, and by this point, they never should have let me drive off in my car it was running so horrible. It turns out my engine was knocking, but I was not aware that was the problem since I was told it was the distributor.

Well my friend realized when I barely got my car to his house, that it was my motor knocking and not my distributor. He then checked out my car and noticed that I had a kinked oil line that ran from my oil to the motor - hence, no oil was getting to my motor.

Well he went on to check to my oil and found gasoline and metal in my oil. I just had the oil changed last Thursday! So he also checked to see if Tires Plus put the correct oil filter on my car, and they did, however he had to buy some wrenches to get the oil filter off, it was put on too tight.

So I called Tires Plus and told them that it was motor and not the distributor like they were saying. So they agreed to pay to have my car towed back to their shop to have it looked at again, since by this point it was non-drivable. Also, since I was not a happy customer (I had been there many times before), they had a claim opened to investigate the issue.

Well when they open a claim, they hire an investigator to investigate the issue and to see if Tires Plus is in fact at fault for the damage that was done to my vehicle. Apparantly, it is an independent company that is not affiliated with Tires Plus, yet Tires Plus hires this company??? Hmm...

Well, to make a long story short, they have denied my claim twice and I now have a vehicle that doesn't run at all and Tires Plus will not admit that they made a mistake, nor that any oil line was kinked when I informed them of the kinked oil line (and it was brought back to them with the kinked oil line). Yet in the investigator's report, it doesn't mention anything about a kinked oil line; only that I need a new distrobutor and my car was making noises because my fan blade was hitting the fan shroud.

Well I ended up having Tires Plus pay to have my vehicle towed to another shop, one that I trust and is locally owned. They checked my vehicle and verified that the noise was in fact my motor knocking; not the fan blade hitting the fan shroud like I was previously told.

Also, I was told that oil not getting to my motor due to a kinked oil line would have very well caused the problem; especially since my car went from running good to not running at all in under 100 miles of driving it. So Tires Plus again sent out an independent investigator; which turns out to be the same investigator they previously hired to look at my car the first time.

The independent investigator in turn agrees stating that yes, now it is my motor knocking, although he previously stated in his first report that my motor was perfectly fine! So I now have an engine issue, but Tires Plus still couldn't have caused this problem in any way, per the so-called independent investigator.

Please help! Mistakes happen, but just because they are a national company, it doesn't give them the right to screw poeople over! They need to pay for the mistakes they make and be liable! I want to file suit, talk to media, get this story out there because I am sure I am not the only person that has been jacked around by this company. Thank you.
