One Price now, and the higher price late

I was in to see mechanic about a leak from the power steering line. I suspect vandalizism, due to an incident a few days ago. This was on a tuesday. I was referred to a more experience tech Will call (Ken) he and 3 other tech diagnosed the problem as a leaky power steering line. And one of the CV boots while I will write about their shabby work later. This boot was cracked. So I went with (Ken) to the computer and we looked up the parts needed and assumed labor costs and it was verbally agreed upon as about $360.00. Now this is after 4 different mechanics look at the problem. Now I normal have my oil change there. They are always offering different deals to change this or check that. So (Ken) and agreed that I would bring the car in on Thursday to have the work done. So I give (ken) a nice thank you tip for all his advise and concerns. Thursday it is.
Well Thursday comes, I bring my car into the shop. I don't see (Ken), so I see the same manager that lead me to (Ken). Where's (Ken)? He got fired? That happens, But I can help you! Now this is a day and a half later. He didn't remember me, or (Ken) & I talking even though he was standing as well as sitting right next to us! F&Magic! So now he has other experienced mechanics? I asked him to remember what we all agreed up. "He responded about something about a leak I claimed vandalizism". I said yes. OK??? Well lets take a look and see what's going on... Meantime a day and a half earlier 4 mechanics looked and diagnosed the situation, it's could either be vandalizism, but it could also be wear and tear, don't forget it's got a lot of miles on it? So we put it up in the air start poking around. Now it needs more things done. Not just the things (Ken) and I spoke about. Now the price is 3 times higher and now he suddenly doesn't have the parts and may be able to get them today? Then He asked me why I have this attitude about the F&ing he's giving me.
The bottom line is I told him very nicely to put it back together and I thanked him, he continued to backpeddle. Telling me that the price could be close. I once again tip the mechanic who worked on my vehicle and was out of there. I guess us people from New York should not complain about being "F" over by Such professional and dedicated service oriented establishments that are nation wide. Bottom line is get everything in very simple writing that a first grader can understand, Make sure the part numbers and prices are there. Then compare their prices to the standard prices on several wholesales, junkyard and under market deals prices. You will find that some place double the price. Have you considered the labor charge as well. They charge you 50 to 100 dollars in some places, meantime they pay the mechanic 14.00 an hour. And he has his hand out for a tip also. Shop carefully.
