I got a call from these guys and I was stupid enough not to end the call. I went through the details of the plan, just to see what it was, and they told me the offer was only for that day. They told me that, I could cancel the policy with in 30days with out any charge, absolutely. So, I thought I could cancel it if I didn't want it, and took the policy.

I was told, I had to pay $495 sth per year with a down payment of $345. After few days I see a charge of $200 on my credit card and called them up for details. They said I have to pay $2300 sth which is complete policy premium for 5years, in the first year itself, to a company called MEPCO finance, since they have made the payment already. This information wasn't told to me at all when I was taking the policy.

I wanted to cancel the policy with in 30days and called them up 5 days before the deadline of 30 day trial period. The customer support receives my call and transfers it to a lady called "Kotney" who handles cancellations. She never answers my call and it goes to her voice mail. I was doubtful about their cheap tactics to delay my cancellation, and told them I wouldn't pay any charge if they don't cancel it with in 30days. Then they clearly assure me that I wouldn't be charged at all since I called them before the last day of cancellation. (A tactic to make you think, it is OK to send in the cancellation form late) I called them 5-6 times and finally I got hold of Kotney after yelling at them, 5 days past the 30day period. She emails me the cancellation form and assures me that I wouldn't be charged a penny. She tells me that It would take 30 days to process the cancellation request. (Why would anybody need 30days for doing this?). I sent them a fax and an email of my signed cancellation request.

I was expecting a full refund from them, instead I see a charge for $200 again from MEPCO for the second time. I was pissed off and called them, and they told me that they never received my cancellation request, which is a complete lie, since I have an email proof of successful delivery of cancellation form. They tell me that my cancellation was not with in 30days and I will have to pay $435 in total, for nothing. This is a complete contradiction to what the customer service had earlier assured me. They tell me to do what ever I can, and they are not going to refund my money.

At this point I see my only option is to sue the company. Is there any lawyer who is interested in taking up this case? I have email proofs and call records to substantiate my claim. I filed a dispute with my credit card company Capital one, and I am not sure, whether they could resolve it.

Bottom line: Don't take the policy thinking that you could cancel it. They are not going to cancel it, though you want them to. Everything they tell over phone is a lie. If you have already taken the policy, cancel it ASAP. Try to have recorded proofs of your conversations with customer service, in case if you need them in future.
