Harrell's Auto Restoration
Might as well get MAACO, butchers ripoff waste of time

I took my Dodge Dakota in on a recommendation for an estimate; specified that I just needed the bigger body work done, but we would be changing colors on it. He (Mack Harrell) said he wouldn't let work go through his shop that was done like that and insisted that he was going to be thorough with it. OK I can deal with that. I let him know, I want this looking very good, and he's repeatedly reassuring me this is going to be great. I'm told something like $1100. Which was what MAACO was wanting to charge; I'm assuming if the "restoration" shop will do it for the same money; of course they get the job. I stop by checking on the progress; which I felt was going slowly. But didn't let that bother me because it was supposed to look so good when it was finished. Finally the truck is painted; and I ask when they'll be doing the clear coat. He responds with "I decided to just do it with polyurethane" Well. He quoted me base coat / clear coat. He starts talking about how much better the poly is. Oh yeah. That's why MAACO get $249 for it. He says that the paint has to cure longer and to give it one or two weeks for the runs and fish eyes to run out. And if I don't like it he'll redo it. So it goes back in. And supposedly gets repainted with base coat / clear coat. Still has some bad spots in the paint, have paint on the interior; paint peeling off where the surface wasn't prepped prior to painting, and body work so wavy it'll almost make you seasick. The paint prep and attention to detail wouldn't be acceptable in a high school shop class. Regardless of the money aspect; for a man to brag about the quality of his shops work; and let things come out looking like mine did is inexcusable. He knows Dothan, Alabama
