Just Brakes
Very dishonest and unnecessary ripoff repairs victimized many consumers

I am filing this report to make other consumers aware of Just Brakes, so that they will not be ripped off, as I was. I dont want and not willing for any legal proceedings on this. I will be happy if I can save somebody for the ripoff.

I will give a complete details of what happened and try to give a fair idea to anybody who is willing to visit "JUST BRAKES". The views I am expressing here are the views that are shared by everybody (about 15 people I talked to, and seen the estimated repairs on their cars for basic brake job) whom I met at "JUST BRAKES" while getting the brake job on my car.

I bought a Nissan 240 SX on february from a dealer. I made a trip to "JUST BRAKES" just because of their advertised prices of just $99.98 and to be on the safe side. To begin with there was nothing wrong with my brake calipers, drums and the brake pads itself. According to GoodYear, they would last for atleast another 5 - 6 thousand miles.

"JUST BRAKES", after taking a look at the car told me that I need new brake pads, hardware and I need to get the brake calipers cleaned, and the bill totalling somewhere about $500. I wasn't prepared for it and I made a formal request for him, that I will for now get the brakes changed and the front calipers cleaned. At this instant the guy working for "JUST BRAKES" was very rude and insisted that I should get everything repaired, or else I will be ending up in serious trouble. Imagine all this about a car that was running and stopping good. To add to this, the car is a 98 make, which according to anybody doesnt need the calipers cleaned on the first place.

Even after this I got the brakes repaired to what I want. After the brakes were done. I took the car and got onto the road. To my surprise my car is taking two times the distance it used to take to stop. I went back and enquired about it to know that he installed organic pads on it according to manufacture specifications. I couldn't belive it, as on a sports car the general sense is they will not have organic pads. So I have to argue for 30 minutes with him, and then he finally says that he looked into the manufacturer recomendations again and they take metallic, and installed them.

While driving home, my rear brakes started to squeal all the way. After about 2 months I go back to him, to get the rear brake calipers cleaned, and now he gives me a new looking estimate for $900, recommending me to change all the calipers. Looking at the bill, I am afraid of it, I went home, and drove it the way they are.

After another couple of months, my brakes started to pulsate. Now I go to a different "JUST BRAKES", bcoz the first one is closed (Its not a surprise to me, as a consumer cannot be fooled around all the time). Now this guy says that I could get the car brakes repaired under warranty program. They disassemble the brakes, and this guy comes back to me and says I need to get the calipers cleaned. I told him that they are still under warranty and they could clean it.

To my surprise and to the humour of others, the guy immediately responds to me by saying that, if the calipers are already cleaned, then he doesnt know what else might be wrong and I have to change the master cylinder (imagine this on a 98, Nissan, with the brake fluid at its best looking), change the calipers and brake hoses, drums, brake pads. Virtually he was telling me that I should change the entire brake system on a 98 Nissan in 2002. Which is 4 yrs on road or after 60000 miles. The bill as the parts mention, is about $2000.

I didnt know at that instant what to do, except to laugh. Then asked him to pack the brakes back, and I will come back for repairs, this is just to make sure that he doesnt mess with my car anymore that way I will be able to avoid costly repairs.

Now I took my car to "ALL TUNE AND LUBE", I got the brakes done for 70$ installation cost of brake pads. My car brakes are perfect now. I dont know what to say after this, except to let others make aware not to spend 500$ like me, before realising that we should have visited somebody else for the job.

Thanks again, I feel much better now bcoz somebody down the line will not be ripped off like me.

PS: The estimates by "JUST BRAKES" on my car match all other cars that were driven in there for the attractive low priced brake job, including a 2000 Nissan Altima.
