Sent wrong transmission - won't refund money. Out $720 and one month wasted

My story is basically the same as can be found here or elsewhere online. Why didn't I do my research before spending money with this company?

John sent the wrong transmission for my car. He promised afterwards to send the correct transmission, but after two weeks said he couldn't locate one so I could have a refund. Guess what, after waiting two weeks and only being told "Your check's in the mail!" when I call, I told John I didn't believe he ever sent it. He then called me several names and hung up on me. Now I read all the other garbage on the internet that this guy has pulled and I wished I'd done my homework before spending my money.

I plan to file a complaint with the Texas Atty General's Office, I urge anyone else having a bad dealing with this guy to please do the same. I don't want for anyone else to get scammed.
