After $2000 bill & 55 days in shop, auto still not fixed

Cars & Transport

On October 15, my 1999 Inifity suddendly starting locking up when cold & placed in eithor D or R. Had car towed to Aamco in Charlotte (although I thought it was going to local shop in Gastionia).

On 10/18/07 they said it needed rebuilt, cost $1254. On 10/23 they said it also needed a torque converter, $299, and a soleniod valve, $226. I authorized work & also requested that 2 wheel bearings be replaced. That cost was $644.

1st, during the bearing R/P they broke the wheel sensor off the hub. Then they called & said I had to pay for it & another for the other side. Why should I pay for their error? So, I refused. After some debate they agreed it was their fault. Guess what?: they got the right one out without breaking it!

Got the car back on 10/29/07 afyter paying a bill of $2670.31. The next morning it did exactly the same lock up! Also, the muffler was rubbing the floor in R, and the steering was off-center. They towed it back to Charlotte again.

Anyway, it has been back there several times since the with the same problem it started with. Now, 57 days later it is still in the shop.

They refuse to provide a loaner auto, or to make any pice adjustments for my time. Now, the question becomes: If the car still has the same problem as it started with on 10/15, was the $2000 in transmission work necessary, or a RIP OFF? I think the later!

I have contacted Aamco corporate, they have not yet responded.
