Tried to sell me mechanically challenged car ripoff

Cars & Transport

Went to look at a 2002 Infiniti I35 that was advertised for $8,999. I was on 8/17 and was told by a salesperson that the price "was around $12,995" or so. I'm assuming that he told me that because there are no prices on the cars and not many people research them, so they can tell you what they want and see if they can get you to pay. Also, when I was looking at the car there was a service order in the glovebox that indicated that several repairs needed to be done to the car (brakes, power steering pump, etc.). That invoice was missing from the car when I returned (surprised?).

Went back on 8/25 and met Steve. I drove the car and the ride was okay. After driving it, Steve told me that the price was $8,999 take it or leave it. Because that was an okay price on the car, I decided to have it checked out by Infiniti for mechanical issues. When Infiniti inspected the car, they told me that it required $2,000 to $3,000 in mechanical work to repair the car. There was no record of any of the major services being done (30k or 60k) and that failure caused several problems.

When FCC saw the report, Steve told me that it was a lie and Infiniti was trying to get me to not purchase their vehicle so I would buy one from their dealership. I told Steve that I had already checked their lot so there was nothing for them to gain by lying. Although he had proof of mechanical issues in his hands, he still refused to negotiate on the price and, when I arrived back on the lot, refused to even come out and talk to me. He had someone else come out and hand me Infiniti's inspection report. Guess they're not going to leave that in the car either. I was told they'd just sell it to someone else for that price (I guess someone who wouldn't know they were purchasing something with SERIOUS issues).

If you shop here, make sure to get the car inspected by a good mechanic (not theirs who thinks everything is exaggerated and all cars are mechanically fine) because there may be issues they refuse to disclose. Given what I've read here, I would say that's a pretty good bet. Good luck if you wind up with this car.
