Sold be a bad engine ripoff

Well im just another guy who got ripped off by gex and trying to let other vw owners know about this company. First off Larry (he is the guy in charge i guess) isnt very friendly nor is their customer support. When I completed my order with him he said the engine was in stock and would be about a week till I got the engine. Well it took six weeks and the transmission I ordered at the same time took another week.

When my brother and I put the engine in and started up for the first time it ran great but I only had to drive it for a few miles and it started to back fire and lose power. We thought it was the carbs so we tuned them and tuned them and we finally figured out that wasnt the problem. Now mind you this was suppose to be a turn key engine we werent suppose to do anything but install it, it was suppose to be tuned and hot ran at the shop anyway

We went through everything and couldnt figure it out. We took a look at the spark plugs and they were oil coated and fouled out, so we put new plugs in and the thing ran great but only for a few miles again. I was reluctant to call gex about this because I didnt want to ship the damned thing back. I read on samba that wouldnt have been a good idea so Im glad I didnt because Id just be out more money.

Its been a year now since I got it and I never realy got to drive my car for anymore than a few minutes and that realy sucks after spending 3000 dollars for a supposed 'turn key engine'. It took me a year to save enough money to get it fixed but I'm finally getting it sent down to joes vw in maryland. I'll update this when he tells me whats was wrong with it.

Anyway stay away from gex and just save a little longer and buy from a reputable engine builder.
