Bait and Switch—An Unprofessional and Unethical Business Practice

Last week my husband and I had the occasion to visit the Moore Chrysler Plymouth Jeep Eagle dealership located in Peoria, AZ. We were in the market for a new PT Cruiser.

We planned on trading our 1998 Cadillac. An appraisal was completed on the vehicle and it came back at $7000. We then asked to see the inventory available.

We were met by a young lady who showed us the existing inventory. The prices quoted were far higher than their newspaper advertising. We then asked to see the advertised vehicle. We were told that the advertised vehicle was a Red PT Cruiser.

The price quoted seemed fair enough so we decided to buy this auto. Meanwhile, the young lady went to the Sales Manager and she came back with the $7000 trade amount reduced to $6000. We discussed it and decided to buy anyway. The saleslady asked me to sign that we would accept $6000. This I did. Meanwhile, she went back to the Manager and returned with a $5000 amount for our trade even though I had already signed for $6000.

We promptly left the dealership telling the Sales Manager that there was no way that we could do business with a company such as Moore Chrysler due to their Bait and Switch practices.
