I have an 1989 Ford Probe turbo that was running rough. I had tried to fix the car myself but could not diagnose the problem. I took my car into John Tharpe's Auto Works and told the lady at the counter my troubles. I told her I wanted the problem diagnosed and she
said that would be $80. I agreed and was told I would be called for an estimate of the repairs beyond the $80. I am mechanically inclined and can do the repairs myself but I just could diagnose it. I got a call telling me that the coil was bad and the spark plugs needed replacement. I was told the cost would be $330. I replied that we are at $80 dollars right now and I would to pick the car up and do the repairs myself. The response I got was unbelievable "I did not believe you would do this to me. We already put the spark plugs in. What do you want me to do, Pull them out? We already ordered the coil. If you want your car back it will be $330.00 and thats that." I agreed as I did not want a confrontation. This is highly illegal since I only authorized the $80 diagnosis. Stay from John Tharpe's at all costs. To change the coil and plugs myself I checked the prices and I could have done it myself $190 cheaper with only 10 minutes of labor. Avoid John Tharpe's Auto Works at all costs...
