Lie about what is necessary to fix car RIPOFF

Cars & Transport

Have personally taken several vehicles to This Ford dealer for warranty work or testing we were unable to perform. Was told on one ocassion that several sensors were bad on a vehicle that had a catalytic converter problem that was under warranty. The vehicle was completely tested before going to the dealer

First a sales person called telling me the converter was under warranty but I had 2 bad oxygen sensors and I needed to replace them. I explained that all four oxygen sensors had just been tested before the vehicle was brought to them and I thought they were trying to sell me items that were not needed. The salesperson told me they would get back to me.

A few days later I was contacted by another person who informed me that the vehicle ws ready but I had to have 2 oxygen sensors. They went on to explian that they were "no good" also "they were burned up" and finally "they were setting computer trouble codes which was why there". As before, the converter was under warranty and the sensors would only cost around $500.00 installed.

By this time I had had enough end went on to explian that there was nothing wrong with the sensors when I brought them in. There was only the trouble code for the converter which could not have set if there were bad oxygen sensors and no other trouble codes. I explained that I felt the tech or the service department was trying to pad tickets by forcing innocent customers who don't know better by having the "dealer" tell them that parts that there was nothing was wrong with needed replacement. I demanded to speak with the service manager.

After several minutes on hold, the service manager told me that I misunderstood. Their techs were trained to sell repairs to help prevent break down. She did not have anything to say about the part where they told me both sensors were bad, burned up & setting codes. I guess they don't see a difference. I told them not to touch the sensors. I explained that I would retest them and take care of any needed repairs.

After I had the vehicle picked up, we checked and the sensors the dealer said were bad, that I said were not had been replaced anyway. It was turned in as a warranty claim after they tried to sell it to me and not only did I say no, I insisted they only do the converter and do nothing else.

When I called back they explained they did it as a goodwill gesture even though I explicitly told them do not replace the sensors. They also conviently could not produce the old sensors. It all came across as covering their butts for trying selling repair that were totally not needed and they did not want me to get the old sensors back. I have also seen several estimates from their service department that we have fixed without half the sensors they say have completely failed
