Schaller Honda-Subaru-Mitsubishi
Ripoff fraudulant incomplete service

Cars & Transport

In July I took my vehicle in for a typical 30,000 service. After waiting several hours the service manager came by and said the service was complete but I was "close to needing a full front end brake job". I questioned him on what did he actually mean by "close". He replied that he would recommend having new pads and rotors applied to the vehicle today, otherwise I would hear metal-on-metal within 2,000 to 3,000 miles. I declined his recommendation, paid the cashier for the 30k service and drove immediately to a Honda service dealer nearby.

I purchased a new set of front pads and drove to where I work which was by now, after hours. A colleague of mine helped me inspect the front brake system that Schaller Honda recommended overhauling and replacing. I removed my current front brake pads and compared them to the identical new set of Honda factory pads with a pair of digital pair of calipers. My current pads were 87% the thickness of the new pads.in other words, at my current rate of use, I would not require new brake pads for 10's of thousands of miles.

Not so surprisingly, with the front brake pads barely used, my front rotors were also like new and not in need of replacing as the Schaller service manager recommended.

Besides being lied to and prescribing hundreds of dollars in a unnecessary brake job, the repairs I had paid for in the 30,000 service were not completed. While inspecting the front brake system I noticed one of the two driver's side hydraulic plungers was jammed due to the salt and sand mixture the state of Connecticut applies to roads during winter weather. My 30,000 service receipt from Schaller clearly states that the front brake system was inspected and lubricated. The driver's side front brake system was never inspected since I noticed immediately that the front brake system was only partially functional. The front brake system was also not lubricated since the salt and sand debris had to be removed before any lubricant could be accepted.

In summary, Schaller takes your money and doesn't complete the repairs your Honda actually needs while prescribing parts and service that are not needed. If this is the type of "service" you are seeking, Schaller is the place you'll want to go.

Lastly, I did not contact Schaller after confirming being cheated. If Schaller was willing to cheat me in the first place I certainly do not trust them to properly rectify the situation after the fact. I regret not reporting Schaller until now but I was unaware of this site until recently.
