On a Spring Break road trip my suburban's rear air conditioning went out. I pulled off the highway to Tilden Brake World for an A/C check up.

I was told that all my car needed was some freon and that it would only take 30 minutes to add. They proceeded to hook up my car to the freon machine. I walked across the street and ended up shopping for 2 hours with my friends. When I returned to Tilden my car was still hooked up to the freon machince and they were extremely peeved off that I took two hours to return. I was informed by another customer that my car had been hooked up to the machine for the entire time, and I became suspicious. However, the rear air was cooler and they said the ducts just needed to cool down before cold air would come out.

They charged me for the freon and one hour of labor ($350). I paid and went on my way to West Plam Beach. 30 minutes later of highway driving the rear air conditioning never got better. It actually went out again, and then the front A/C went out also.

I called Tilden and they were closing for the day and refused to look at it till tommorrow. After convincing them that I had to be in West Plam Beach for the night for my resrvation they agreed to look at it. One breif look and they told me the compressor was blown, and they could fix the next day. This was not an option I had and they knew it.

I was furious. They offered to credit me $150 toward the repair the next day (estimated to be $800), which I deemed unacceptable. After threatening complaints to AAA and other auto clubs they offered me $200 back, if I signed a written document saying I would not file a complaint and that felt I was treated fairly.

I refused and left.
