Misrepresentation of vehicle

Cars & Transport

On January 5, I purchased and made arrangements to pick up a 1978 Truck from Southern Wisconsin Auto and Tire (SWAT). I found the vehicle on Ebay and paid $9, 900. I had to wire the money in advance before I could pick it up. Dan was the gentleman I conducted business with at the time of the sale. I asked many questions before buying the truck. He told me that the vehicle was in good mechanical condition and and he was aware that I would be driving the truck home. This was an eight hour trip.

On January 9, the vehicle was delivered to me at a truck stop in Kansas City, the truck ran for about two minutes and then died. Before starting it the first time, the exhaust pipe was hanging down, strapped by a bungie cord. The transport man helped me put in a bolt to secure the pipe. There was not much fuel in the truck and it would not run. While I had gone to get fuel, the delivery man left, knowing that the truck was not running. I found a wire that was not plugged in and after plugging it back in, the truck did run. As I was hooking up a trailer to it, water begin running out and after an hour looking for the problem, I found that it was a heater hose that had a stripped clamp that someone had left that way. I added two gallons of antifreeze to fill it back up. On checking, I had brake lights and turn signals, but no tail lights. I then turned on the heater and it was not working. It was around 25 degrees by then and three hours later, I was still trying to get the vehicle ready to leave the truck stop where it was delivered.

I called SWAT three times with the intent to return the vehicle for a full refund before it left the parking lot. Three times, I spoke with Mark who told me that he was an hourly employee and would not, at my request, call someone that could make a decision about the truck. He informed that no one would be there until the next day.

I started home with no heat and no breather on the motor (unbelievable!!). When I got to Bella Vista, AR, I heard a noise in the left front that turned out to be a bearing that had gone out because there was no oil cap or oil in the bearing. I pulled into a parking lot and had to have the truck towed home the next day. The tow bill was $980.40. When we pulled the truck onto the roll back, the wheel came off of the truck. The vehicle was extremely too dangerous to be driving.

This was in no way how Dan described the truck to me. I was assured that everything worked and it was safe to drive home with no mechanical problems. This vehicle was not safe and not in mechanical working condition. I have now spent an additional $656.63 for repairs on a vehicle that I was told was in sound mechanical order.

I have done business on E-bay for 17 years and have bought and sold many vehicles. Southern Wisconsin Auto and Tire has been the only rip off in all my transactions. I wish I had done more research on this company before I made my purchase. My advice: DO YOUR RESEARCH! AND DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY.
