Ripoff Brake pads and rotors do not need replacing after a $700.00 estimate

My son is a college student at UT Arlington. He took his Jeep into Store 10 on South Cooper in Arlington yesterday (12/30/04) to get the brakes checked out before he was to drive his car to Colordo for a ski trip. The store said he had a leak in his rear axle and needed new pads and roters. They gave him a price of over $700 for the repairs. He called us (his parents) for our opinion. The estimate seemed high to us.
We had him bring his car home and we took the car to another shop (very reputatable, have know the mechanic for 15 years). That shop did not find a leak and said his pads and roters were at 80% and did not need to be replaced at this time.
Just Brakes needs to recognize that their reputation is on the line with every customer interaction. It is especially insulting to me that they would try to take advantage of a kid. There's a fine line between "upselling" and misrepresentation of the problem.
I called the corporate office and logged a complaint. Customer Service was very polite and offered their apologies and platitudes, but I lack confidence that they really cared.
