Shuler's
Bad Service

Cafes, Bars, Restaurants

Recently my seven friends and I were celebrating my friend's promotion to head cashier. We went to Shuler's, a nice restaurant. At the beginning of the meal we ordered a bottle of pretty expensive wine ($). When it came, the waiter poured some in each glass but rant short after the fifth glass and he offered to get another bottle. We agreed and he filled up the rest. We toasted my friend's promotion and had a few more sips. At that time two of my friends and I decided the wine was not very good and certainly not worth $23 so we asked the waiter to bring us another bottle at the same price and to deduct the price of the other bottle from our bill. He refused, saying that the other five liked theirs and we had drunk most of the wine in our glasses. I was astoundedI have never heard of a waiter refusing to take back a bad bottle of wine.

Incensed, I asked that he bring up our dissatisfaction with manager. The manager came over a few minutes later to tell us that he would not return the bottle, pointing out the exact same reasons as the waiter (they were obviously in cahoots). Obviously, our celebration was ruined and the lady sitting next to me throughout this ordeal had tears in her eyes and was on the verge of sobbing.

Receiving no resolution, I followed the manager to the front of the restaurant and continued to tell him of my unhappiness and threatened to never come back. He said he was sorry, but he could not deduct the price of the wine. I then told him her should at least comp us a dinner or two to make up for ruining our celebration. He refused and was quite rude about it. I suggested that after our party left I'd come back to finish the argument and he acted like I was some sort of idiot for wanting to make sure the matter was settled to my satisfaction. During all of this my food arrived and once I returned to my table, my food was cold. You'd think at the very least the waiter could have held off until I was seated. I asked him for a new, warm dinner but all he did was reheat it in a microwave.

Horrible experience. Avoid this restaurant!
