Farmer Direct Meat
This company shorted me on organic beef poundage! They don't even have a scale!

I originally agreed to purchase a Half Beef (organic) from this company in the Omaha, NE/Council Bluffs, IA area. You can tell from its website that it's probably a small operation, but that's what my wife and I were looking for. We wanted to buy pasture fed beef with no antibiotic/hormones. We agreed to pay $3.79 a lb. For a half beef, sending them a check for $350 as a down payment.

After weeks of waiting, we finally get a call from the owner Steve, who told us that our beef was ready to pick up. Upon my arrival Steve lead me into a back room to where he had my beef in cardboard boxes inside small "Blue Bunny" mini freezers, like the ones you see at convienient stores. Steve said that the cow was a smaller one and the half beef weighed only 126 lbs. I was fine with this, because it meant that I would only have to give him an additional $117 instead of $200-$300.

First of all, this back room was filled with cigarette stench which was a big turn off. Isn't this a health code violation? Steve pulls out two boxes of my meat, which looked, im my mind a lot less that 126lbs. Steve allowed me to trade back unwanted roasts or certain cuts for more hamburger etc. Which was good. But, the main problem was, He didn't have a scale!!! I told him it didn't look or feel heavy enough to be 126# but he insisted that it was. Then he threw in 9 or 10 more packages of hamburger, because he said" I want you to be satisfied because I want you to come back and buy more next time" After he threw in the additional meat, I was somewhat satisified. And decided to load it up and pay him.

Well, when I got home I weighed the meat and it only weighed 86 lbs.! I was short aprox. 40 lbs! I called him back and he said there was "no way that was only 86#'s. I told him I weighed it twice with and fairly accurate digital scale and it came to the same weight. He even misrepresented the hamburger packages, saying they were 1.25 lbs each. They only weighed slightly over 1 lb. He's stopped returning my calls or emails now. I ended up paying $5.43 a lb instead of the agreed $3.79. Farmer Direct Meat Co. Owes me $150!!!
