Ripoff, cake mispelling

On August 13 I picked up a custom cake made of fondant for my sister's wedding shower. There was a misspelling on the top of the cake that I did not notice until I got to the shower site. Oak Mill bakery opens at 10am, the shower was set to begin at 11am so I had no time to 1. Return the cake, 2. Make a phone call about the cake, 3. Get another cake, and due to the nature of the decorating I would have been unable to repair the cake if I had noticed at the bakery.

The long and short of my complaint is that I paid alot of money for a cake and sweet table and the word Congratulations was misspelled. I called Monday following the shower and complained and basically was told to email a picture of the cake to the headquarters office and that I would be contacted.

I followed up a few days later to be transferred all over and was told to resend the email. I did and called back again to follow up. I called the store directly to report what had happened and basically was told "too bad" - in their words and I quote, I was told that people work there, NOT Machines. People make mistakes.

The people who work there do not have PHD's and cannot be held accountable to spell the word Congratulations. There is a system of checks and balances and quality control but in this case must have been overlooked due to (begin again at "people work there") etc, etc.

Personally, I think this is a horrible way to do business and with the word Congratulations being standard on most cakes would think that it would be a no-brainer to spell. I also think I should have been compensated in some way or at least apologized to.

A wedding and all of its facets are really important to the bride and although we continued on and didn't let this ruin the special day it never should have been an issue. To add insult to injury this was also the bakery that my sisters banquet hall has an agreement with for the wedding cake. I can't imagine entrusting such a huge part of my wedding day to people who do business like this.
