Dunkin Donuts
Ripoff substandard quality due to changed business model

Cafes, Bars, Restaurants

Although this report cites a visit to the Columbia, MD location it could have just as easilly been about several other independent stores in the Baltimore-Washington area.

I went into the Columbia store to purchase a dozen donuts and was surprized as to how "small" the donuts have become. The box designed to hold a dozen could probably have held another 2-3 cake donuts if need be.

I read in the Washington Post and at the msnbc web site http://www.msnbc. Msn.com/id/8135191/ about how the stores are switching from on premises baking to using a central plant in Elkridge, MD. Now I can understand why the stores are getting smaller donuts!

As an added insult to injury, I bought my mixed dozen a bit late in the afternoon. You guessed it - half the donuts were stale by that time of day. I guess if the location does not have the ability to make a donut fresh on site, if you cannot get a donut in the early morning you should not even try.

Small wonder that many outlets are adopting the Dunkin Donuts/Baskin Robbins model - at least the ice cream does not go bad as fast.
