$1,390.00 payment held four days after the item shipped

On Monday, October 15, somebody purchased an item from us. The buyer paid $1,390.00 via PayPal. We received an email from PayPal with the details of the payment, saying that we could ship the items, that the shipping address of the buyer was a confirmed address, and that everything was OK.

Since we are Top Rated Sellers, eBay requires you to ship the same or next day in order to maintain this status. So we shipped out the items the day we received the payment. Everything was OK. Four days later, on Thursday, Oct. 15, we received an email from PayPal saying that the payment of $1,390.00 was on hold because maybe it was a payment not authorized by the buyer.

They sent this message four days AFTER we received the payment, by which time the buyer was almost receiving the item. So we cannot use this money, and now we have neither the items nor the money.

I got in touch with the buyer. He had already received the items and even left positive feedback on eBay. He said that PayPal blocked his account and that the money he paid was taken from his account, but at least he has the items he bought. It has been a week, and PayPal has not responded to us.

This is totally unfair, especially to a seller who has been using eBay and PayPal for over 8 years. The buyer did not open a dispute or ask PayPal to open a dispute; this is a PayPal thing. They are investigating because "they think"...
