This company has called my landlady, of all people, insisting that I live there, and that they (her and her husband) put me on the phone. They have told them repeatedly that I do not live there. I have told them the same thing. On most occasions when I have called them, I have explained that I am not at that number. They have bluntly told me that then it's too bad if my private information is relayed to my landlady and landlord.

Vitel will not remove their number from their computers, either. My landlady finally got them to take it off, but it took her several months. She finally thretened legal action if they did not quit calling her house. She also told me that if they did not quit calling, that she was going to file eviction on me. When I told Vitel that, they said "too bad, you need to pay your bill." Funny thing is, they don't kow what they are talking about. There is no bill. And I have tried to tell them this, REPEATEDLY. Statute of limitations is up, and has been for some time. I was told there was no such thing, that they can continue efforts to collect until I am dead. That they will make sure I cannot buy the house I am livingin on land contract because they will make sure my credit rating is so poor because of this that I won't be able to buy a house any where.

I called Discover Card, who actually had the original account, and they said that it was ridiculous, and told me who I could call. I called the company (will update with this when I get back home~on campus right now) they gave me, and talked to them. They gave me another number and told me to talk to an attorney there, to explain what was going on, and they would look into it, because according to them, it was also past the statute of limitations. I called the number they gave me. It was the same damned people that have been harrassing me and my landlady and her husband for the past year. They tried to tell me that I was not allowed to talk to their attorneys, as they did not have time to explain things to people that could not pay their bills. They started off on some speech about how "this communication was an attempt to collect a debt..." and I cut her off, told her I wanted to talk to an attorney, just as I had requested of the woman that put me on hold and transferred me to this one with the spiel on debt collecting practices.

When I told the woman that I had been told to call and ask for an attorney to come to the phone, and who had told me to call and request it, she changed her attitude, but by then, I did't want to hear any more. I simply hung up. Then she called back five or six times. I'll have to get her name off my notes, too, and put that up here. It was Suomie or something like that.

I called the FTC today after my first class and explained to them what was going on, now they are investigating them for actually giving out bad legal advice, threatening me, and also giving me general misinformation that they have a duty to know.
WOW!!!

I know this is under Discover Card, but I couldn't find Vitel or the other company, who hired Vitel, and also told me to call the attorneys at that number. They don't seem to be too bad. These other people at Vitel need to quit taking their jobs so personally and quit attacking people that have nothing to do with this. I don't think anyone would like to have their landlady called a liar just a couple days after her mother passed away in her own house.
