Credit Card Scam

Yet another Guardian dupe,

On August 20th I recieved a phone call from Guardian Financial, offering me a chance to rebuild my credit, and have some major purchasing power to boot. For 249 dollars, I would be given a 2000 dollar credit limit with no apr for the first two years on all purchases made. I had heard of a Guardian Fiancial Services, and felt reletively comfortable dealing with them for that reason, (I have since found out the real Guardian Financial Services is based in California, and does life insurance and 401 k's). It seemed a bit too good to be true, but my credit rating really needed some help, and the ability to have some interest free credit to help my family get back on its feet was alluring.

The representative told me it would take 21 business days to process my card, and that it would be sent to me soon afterwards. I questioned him on this, and he told me it was standard procedure, and though it felt a bit out of the ordinary, everything else seemed legit.

After 22 days, a packet arrived from the company, and I opened it with anticipation, to find no card, a whole bunch oc junk mail, and offers for secured credit cards, and a note telling me my card would be shipped out in 25 business days of the receipt of this letter, and that I had to send back an application for a secured credit card in order to begin the process..

My wife and I decided a long time ago not to let credit cards ruin our lives as they had done far too often in the past, and now I see the wisdom of that choice.

I have since contacted my bank, and much to their credit, they have handled my dispute of the company's fraudulent practices with sympathy, compassion, and real help. Stay as far away from these guys as you can, they'll rip you off and run... Oh, and subsequent calls to the company's toll free number have yielded no response... They have a nice answering machine to help them ignore all inquiries regarding their services, or lack thereof.
