Merrick Bank is sending letters of "Preselected for credit card".

The body and intent of the letter is to get you to provide your email and information to sell to other parties under the guise of a preselected offer of credit.

I recently went through a bankruptcy and have stayed away from applying for credit knowing how difficult the credit is today.

When this letter came in and offered a very high interest rate, and stated that this is a good way to re-establish credit, I decided to take the offer to start building credit again.

Once completed with email, address and other personal information the offer was quickly denied.

If I knew that this was a credit application I would have never filled the darn thing out!

When I called the CM # I was speaking to a phone center and no one affiliated with the bank, so I could not file a complaint against the apparent tactics.

I went over the letter several times looking for anything that said "This is an offer to apply for credit" and could not find it, until I looked into the Opt-out notice, 2nd page hidden in the Prescreened offers that states "Prescreened offers are based on information in your credit report indicating you have met the criteria. It does go on to state " This is not a guarantee if you do not meet the criteria, so in one sentence you have met the criteria and in the second sentence states the opposite!

We are sending this high interest rate credit card offer to you based on our research of your credit report, but we may not give it to you because we have not researched your credit report, but we will use your information you filled out on our web data collection form as we choose... We win! You loose! Sucker!!!

After reading all the crap about Merrick, I wanted to add something else they suck at, such as the lack of professionalism and the level of greed they are willing to stoop down to to get as much as they can and to hell with the 99%.

OK, so they did put something about "No guarantee" hidden none the less, but the body of the deceptive solicitation is deliberate and abusive. I am mad that I have a inquiry on my report that I did not ask for.

I signed up for the California law of not having marketeers invade our space with mail, phone and emails, unless the crap comes from India, China, or another call center that can by-pass our laws,

An old Bush Jr. Truism: "Fool me once... Shame on you... Try to fool me... And we cant get fooled again.
