Business & Finance

OK, Hollywood Video/Movie Gallery failed. This collection company, so many years after that bankruptcy, now indicates that I owe $65.80 for late fees on eight movies. Well, this simply isn't true: Either the records are screwed up, or someone is crooked. I've always returned movies and paid any late fees.

Perhaps the clerk pocketed the fees—I don't believe so, though. This collection attempt is based upon bupkis! Naturally, at this point, I don't have records to support my contention. Keeping such records as these for this long a time is totally unreasonable—nobody does that—otherwise, they'd swim in papers!

Anyway, the last such fee is assessed nearly one year after the first (1/09-1/10): Given that I didn't pay the fees, it seems that a business which would let fees go unpaid like that is extremely, even comically, unwise! It's so unwise that it didn't really happen, anyway! The records likely are corrupted or missing—that's not my problem!

Come on—I build my own PCs—records back then in those stores always were on clunky magnetic-media hard drives in lesser-value terminal PCs (basically, that's still often the case with businesses at that level—really, such terminals are not that dissimilar to personal desktop PCs)—old clunky magnetic-media hard drives easily corrupt records (they "forget, " if you will) and eventually fail—always! (The software and the clerk must manage the records correctly—human input is involved, too.)

I'm quite certain that this collection agency is so cheap, idiotic, and vain that they actually continue to use these old PCs and hard drives to spit out their questionable data as basis for these claims—that's monumentally stupid! I posit, instead and reasonably, that info garnered like that—at this late date—is comically undependable!

I'll simply let this go—I don't owe this—I can't believe that any state or federal law (or judge) would validate this claim. If this sleazy collection company attempts to call or collect, they'd better have more than this business-mail rate piece of paper and flimsy, error-prone ancient records—likely courtesy of Desert Shield-era computer antiquity!
