Merrick Bank
Rip-off! Horrible customer service! Bad business!

My wife and I are current card holders for this bank. We are also active duty soldiers. We have been for 18 and 16 years respectively. After paying off our card balance I received a bill for $7.00. I called and inquired about the charge. I was told it was a monthly fee for having the card. I asked to have it waived. I was told it wasn't waivable and I could request in writing to the main office to have it waived if I chose. So I did.

After speaking with several rude representatives, I wrote the letter. 6 months pass with no response. I phoned the bank and was told due to large amounts of mail it may take a few more "weeks". 6 more months lapse. I figured while trying to get this waived, I will pay for the year ($84).

I sent a check in and followed with another letter. 2 months later I received a letter with a check. The letter stated "As you requested a refund of your account has been issued". Well I didn't request a refund per say, so I called a rep again.

After speaking with the first polite and cooperative representative, I was told the banks computer will send a check out if there is any balance to be paid by the bank after 60 days. Also to contact a Mary Biondo who is in charge of waiving any fees. I was also told to fax a letter and explain the situation to her. I did. 2 months later I received a letter stating my request was declined.

This is absolutely ridiculous. My wife and I are both military. We go to various training sites throughout the world several times a year. We have 5 children. None of our creditors hold us to a monthly fee just because we have their card. You would figure good business practices would prevail and waive the fee. I can't even pay the year in full so I don't have to worry about a monthly bill.

All the representatives (8 total) except for one, were rude, disrespectful and unknowledgeable. I will be closing this account and will persuade any and everyone against doing business with this bank. With the current world situation, we are deployable at a moments notice. With 5 children, my wife and I have more to worry about than paying a $7.00 a month charge on 1 credit card.
