Foreclosure scam

My husband and I bought our present home, a townhouse, in December 1991 and have lived here in the 20 years since.in all that time we never had a problem with making payments or with any mortgageholder until Ocwen took over loan servicing in August. They began making immediate demands for 'proof of insurance' and denied getting it after we sent it several times, and so did the townhome management company.

Stating that they had haver received 'proof, ' Ocwen raised our payment 150% in March to cover the cost of forced insurance.By November they were threatening foreclosure, suspensing all our payments, and began returning checks until we cleared up the 'debt.' Eventually they stated that they didn't buy forced insurance, just put the money in suspense for escrow to cover such a cost in case they needed it. I sought help from one of the phone numbers on their mailouts, a HUD-approved mortage counselor, and she couldn't understand what they were doing either until they provided an escrow report. Eventually she got them to put some of the suspensed money toward payment and negotiated a $3700 payoff difference to bring the account current. Meanwhile my credit was smeared and they pressured me to refinance, even to take a reverse mortgage. I hope that's the last of it...
