Pay over and over for pre-pay cards

The pre-paid (re-loadable) cards seem to be a rip-off. You pay up front to load an amount into the card. Then they charge you a purchase fee like $5.95. If you don't use all the value right away (in a month) some of them charge a maintenance fee.

To reload your card they charge another fee like $5.95. Unless you set-up a direct deposit of your pay check.

They also suggest that you get a reload card to load your used up pre-paid. For that card they also charge a purchase fee of like $5.95.
This re-loader card also is subject to a monthly charge if you do not use the whole value.

This scam basically charges you over and over again for taking your money in advance which they can use to make themselves money (like get interest on your money).

I was interested in getting a card, pre-paid, so I could control my spending or my kids spending over the internet. These cards seem to take my control and charge me a bunch for it. It's like giving a loan shark money instead of getting money from a loan shark and then having to pay interest on it.
