$30 late fee on $6 charge

I've had a Chevron credit card since college which was back in 1992. I never use the card for gasoline purchases but I do subscribe to their monthly travel protection plan which is $6.00 a month which they tack onto the card. I have been paying $6.00 a month since 1992.

I recieved a statement in December that stated they did not receive my $6 November payment and a late fee of $6 with $2 minimum interest for total of $20.00 (including Dec) would be required. I contacted Joey at Customer service and wanted to know why my late fee was more than my monthly charge. He told me the late fee would be waived since I've been such a long time customer. I sent my $6 payment and it was recieved by them later that month. I decided to cancel my Chevron credit anyway due to the experience which I did over the phone.

Today I received a January bill, which I didn't expect since I cancelled my card, and not only did my late fee not get waived but they tacked on an additional new 2012 $20 late fee for a new total of $30.00 in fees. When I spoke with Christine in customer service I was informed that the late fee credit did not go through and neither did cancelling my card. I was told there was nothing they could do so I immediately sent the $30.00 and begged them to send me an email or letter indicating my account was officially closed since I never received anything the first time I attempted to close it. I was assured that a letter would be sent. It amazes me that for 20 years I've been using their credit card and this is how my issue was resolved. I won't ever get another Chevron credit card and I will no longer purchase gas at their or their affiliates stations.
