Card Credit Withheld After Paying Two Deposit Fees

We bought one of these cards to buy things online safely and securely. We paid the deposit fee and promptly ordered from a Native American cigarette company. The day after, we were told they cannot ship to Rhode Island. They issued a credit, but Green Dot refuses to process it and demands another deposit fee. We argued on principle, but after two weeks we gave up, deposited more money and paid two fees. It has since been three weeks of daily excuses, with Green Dot telling us it is pending and will deposit at 11pm EST. One "manager" even added $20 for our troubles.

That did not do us any good, because they are still refusing to release the funds. We called their bank, Synovus, who basically laughed in our faces and mocked us. We have spoken to supervisors, managers and others. We have even had a lawyer call them all, to no avail.

My family and I are unemployed, and while $70 may not seem a large amount to a corporation, that is a week's worth of food for the three of us. So thanks, Green Dot and Synovus, for starving us. I am sick of your lies, your false promises and your belligerence. Horrid customer service, horrid supervisors without any power to help, and none will clear it the same day at that exact time. I have worked in financial services. I know you can move it from pending to available funds right then and there. That is why people buy these cards: to put money on them and have it available immediately.

Buyer beware: do not get one of these cards. This company is hokey, the bank is based in Barbados, the customer service agents do nothing but mock you, and the corporation is there to steal your hard-earned money. You are better off sticking to cash, not paying your bills online, and doing everything the old-fashioned way by mailing in checks.
