Wont provide any detail of charges they claim you owe them!

This company called me out of the blue today saying I owed them $550 on an apartment i rented 4 years ago. They are the collection agency. First they offered to remove the item from my credit report if i paid $400 in the next week or so, till the end of the month. If they had a valid claim they wouldn't offer to remove it since collection agencies arent supposed to remove correct information.

When I told them that i had no idea what these charges were for the guy just said for past due rent, damages, repairs, etc. I didnt think this was accurate so I asked him if he could please send me the detailed statement showing what the charges were for and he replied, " No, Im not going to go into storage for an account that is four years old". So I guess they expected me to just send them $400 without seeing anything so they can remove this from my credit report. Sounds like a scam and fraud to me. Watch out!
