Cap one sufferers watch out! More is coming!

Dear Cap One sufferers,

There is a new threat in town—it's called "check 21."

Check 21 is a law that President Bush signed into law in October that permits merchants to take your personal check and make their own checks from your personal account information, apparently without getting your permission to do so. Consumers will also not see their canceled checks again.

This law is to take affect in late October. However, some companies, such as this one, have decided to screw the consumer even earlier.

I am a Cap One card holder and make my payments online. Every time I do so, I am asked for permission. However, my father, also a Cap One card holder, makes his payments by check. Now, they have taken his information and made their own checks WITHOUT EVER ASKING HIS PERMISSION TO DO SO.

Capital One has apparently implemented this CHECK 21 legislation months before it was due to officially start. I am getting ready to file a complaint with the Attorney General of my state.

Upon discovery of this behavior by CAP One, my father is considering closing his account, and as soon as I can, I will too. I hope others will do the same.
