BB&T Bank
Transactions Posted Highest to Lowest Caused Four NSF Fees

The BB&T (Branch Banking & Trust) slogan "You can tell we want your business" is a joke. They are NOT at all looking out for the consumer. Hopefully everyone knows that when you use your ATM debit card, the funds are automatically taken from your checking account. The bank does not wait for the merchant to send in the receipts for the debit; they go ahead and subtract the debit from your checking account balance.
So like me, what if a merchant lost your debit, or the merchant got robbed, or the place of business burned down (of course I don't want either of the two to happen)? Then you have a heck of a time and a long period of time before you can prove it and receive that debit back to your account.
This is the kicker. Everyone should know, and I didn't know, that when 2, 3, 4, 5, etc. transactions come in at one time, you would think they would subtract them as they came in, but no, they subtract them from the highest transaction to the lowest.
That even includes the debits, which had already been subtracted at the time of use. My point: I had 7 transactions come in on one day, and 3 of them were debits (which you would think they would subtract first because they have already taken the money, but no). Two of the debits were the smallest amounts, so they were subtracted last.
If they had subtracted the transactions as they came in (even though they all came in the same day), then I would have had one NSF, which was my fault. But they subtracted these transactions from the highest amount to the lowest amount, which caused me to have 4 NSFs, so that is $120.00 that BB&T took from their consumer (me).
When I called and questioned how they subtracted transactions that came in the same day, I was told from the highest amount to the lowest, and it honestly blew me away. You would think they would be looking out for the consumer and subtracting them as they came in, or from the lowest to the highest, so THEIR consumer would have less of a chance to get hit with NSFs. So I told the representative that I spoke with that the reason they do it this way is so they have a GREATER chance of getting NSFs from the people that trust them, people like you and me.
I think it is a shame that they can get away with this. If anyone has any advice or knows of a banking commission, or someone, or somewhere I may get some help with this, please, please let me know. That is $120.00 of my hard-earned money, taken by BB&T's crooked way of getting NSFs from their consumers. Your help to put a stop to this would be greatly appreciated. I don't plan on stopping here.
If you have any info that will help with this issue, reply to this complaint. Please, let's not let the banks get away with this!
