Misleading letter regarding make-believe debt, ripoff scam

Last night I recieved a letter from CAMCO regarding a debt that I knew nothing about. I assumed my 'identity' had been stolen, burst into tears, screamed at my family and bought a credit report online.

With my wise mother standing over my shoulder, I peered at my credit report - which I had never seen before - and we began to smell a rat. My credit report was lovely and blemish free, as I had expected, so we knew something wasn't right.

I showed my mother the letter and she remarked on the crappy printing and poor quality paper. I squinted at the punctuation errors, slimy wording and inconsistancies in return address and company address.

"a most generous offer"

"we believe you have an important decision to make"

"kindly check one of the options"

(It's a shame that "SUE OUR ASSES OFF" isn't one of the options.)

Calling the phone number they provided and getting a regular answering machine - as opposed to an automated system - finally sent me to the internet to investigate.

When I thought someone had jacked my identity, I was ready to tear somebody a new one. Now that I know it's a scam and they harass people, I'm livid AND I have a target.

I'm a college kid on semester break. I live at home and don't have a thing to do for a month. For all of you who are getting harassed by these people, I'm regarding their little letter as an invitation to go insane.

I'd like those of us in the Houston area that are being scammed to organize somehow... I feel a call to Marvin Zindler or the like might be appropriate. It KILLS me to think that these people might pick on an elderly person. I have only a few years of credit, but I can imagine that after a lifetime I'll be less certain of who I owe.

I don't know what the authorities have been doing in Illinois, but in Texas we don't screw around.

PS: I read what the ex-employee said, as well as some other posts, and I think that Bealls and Palais Royal are selling people out. Those companies are linked, according to their credit website. Any thoughts?
