Got a check for me, but it doesn't have my name on it, says it's for he

I used to work for this lady about 5 years ago. I've always heard things about her trying to rip someone off or ripping someone off. She recently called me and asked me if I had a family helping me out financially. I told her no. I later found out that a check had been sent to her house for me for $4800. At first she didn't even tell me, but then when i asked about it she tried to throw me off saying that the check might not even be for me. I told her to send me the email she got saying that the check was for me. She never sent it and sent me a text to line message saying that she was returning the check and my email address doesn't work. She says that she is returning the check back to where it came from and that if it's for me they will send it to me.
