Business & Finance

In 2006 I had contacted Power Tax Relief regarding (2) Tax years (1999 and 2003) that had gotten out of control. When I first contacted them I must say I bought into the pony show. Everyone was very polite and friendly, not to mention eager to take my hard earned money. They asked for $1,750.00 as retainer, which I sent to them along with power of attorney.
Now things started to go wrong, return calls didn't come much at all. I would literally need to make a few calls before I would get someone on the phone. They sent out a questionnaire and a laundry list of items they needed. This took me a few days to put together (9 days). That package went back to them with another check at their request for $1750.00. I waited about a week before I decided to call them; I figured this would give them time to process and get the ball moving. I also figured if they needed something they would hopefully call me. When I called in, I got voice mails, I finally got someone on the phone and she stated that they were super busy and that my package would be processed and if they needed something I would be getting a call. She had also stated for me to "take a deep breath, and enjoy my weekend".
Weeks go by, with no communication back from Power Tax Relief, based on what I've been told, I'm assuming they are doing what they need to. I ended up sending a letter with a updated address to them. I remember this specifically because I had used my last stamp on Edison Power bill and had to go off and get a new book of stamps, during that trip to post office, my car got hit by a golf ball near the driving range!
Years go by, I don't hear anything from them or IRS. Few days ago I get a not so friendly letter from IRS regarding my 1999 and 2003 tax years! Those are the 2 years I had hired Power Tax Relief! I looked online to search for their phone number to see what had happened all these years. During the search I find all these complaints about the company... At this point I'm feeling I was taken. I see a manager by the name of "Kay" mentioned in almost all of these. So I start the journey of leaving message after message... During this time I decide to play it safe and contact the IRS. IRS stated that Power Tax Relief had done nothing on my account, and that they hear sad stories like this daily.
I will say dealing directly with the IRS went very smoothly. Seeing that I sent my tax information for those years to Power Tax Relief, this weekend I need to get my copies out of storage to send to IRS.
This morning June 30 @ 11:46 PST I finally get a call back from a VERY RUDE and threatening "Paul Majors" who I later found out is a manager there. Between him over talking me and raising his voice I was finally able to tell him what had transpired... I kept trying to talk and he kept yelling at me... I felt like I was 1" tall. Getting tired of this game... I suggest let's meet face to face so we can talk this over. You know what Paul Majors response was? He replied yelling much louder "I'm the last person you want to mess with!!! You want to mess with me... My address is 1700 Burbank..." I was so disgusted with this that I finally started to yell back at him... Saying I was tired of this phone call and wanted to meet with them in office environment and he is picking a fight with me???! He paused and now he changed his approach to saying that unless I pay them more money to open case there isn't reason to meet up!
One thing I should add, Paul was claiming that they closed my account after they didn't receive anything from me. He also made it sound like I was evading my tax responsibility! I was extremely irritated with his attitude here, I know those documents went out, heck I remember the day I sent a forwarding address to them because a golf ball hit my hood of my car heading down to post office to mail that off! He confirmed they did nothing on my account, when I asked for my $1750.00 back he said there was no way I would be getting those funds back. So after he confirmed they did nothing on my account, they were going to just keep my $1750.00.
They have news station video's on their home page, I plan to contact each and every consumer advocate agency, news channel to get the "real" story behind "Power Tax Relief". People make mistakes every day, mine was that I didn't research Power Tax Relief before sending money to them. Rather than blaming me and threatening to fight me, Paul could have approached this much differently and this report could have been avoided. Now I hope I have educated a few not to make the same mistake I have.
You do have options, call the IRS directly... I was not sure what to expect at first, but will say they are very friendly and they do want to help you.
Much respect to you all.
