First time home buyers nightmare with Quickenloans!

Business & Finance

My nightmare began a few months ago. I called Quicken loans to see about being approved for a mortgage loan. My wife and I have been working very hard in order to repair credit scores and be able to be approved. We have been living in a shabby little rental for the past 4 years and have been anticipating buying a home. It's called the American dream; buying a house, raising your kids, making a living honestly. That dream backfired on us the day we talked to Alisa Copus from Quicken. She told us three different times that all was good, and we were on our way to buying a home. We put our $400.00 deposit down with good faith thinking it would go towards closing costs. It was used for an appraisal and is non-refundable now. We didn't know it was going to be used for that. Our realtor stated that the appraisal shouldn't of even happened, because the loan was in limbo at the time. We also paid a guy by the name of Eric Rainier to help me with my credit score repair. $500.00 went into his pocket, we were told that would either be refunded in full or it would go towards closing also - we lost that money too. We were told that the loan could not be approved, so they suggested a co-signer. We jumped through that hoop, then they told us the co - signers weren't good enough. Get this—but the co-signers could purchase the home as an investment property. (they weren't good enough to co-sign at first). I was thoroughly confused by this point. I'm not an expert when it comes to financing or mortgages, but I know when I've been screwed!!! Now we can't even get the appraisal that we paid for to use for a different lender, which by law, would be transferrable to another lender. Ripped off would be putting it nicely!
