A complete waste of money

I signed up 8 months ago to "reduce our credit card debt. Had lost my job and we were quickly going under. I saw an ad, called and spoke to a "sales person" who did a great job of mis-leading me with false promises. Had I actually read thru the agreement carefully, I would have seen he was telling me everything contrary to what they actually claim on the final agreement. They pre-load their fees and "earn 1/3 when we start the process, 1/3 when they send letters and when they are instructed to settle an account they "earn " the final 1/3... Which happened about month 3 or 4 we settled the smallest account we had. Since then I've heard nothing, despite me sending them in a great offer from one of our cards to settle, no one did a thing. When I followed up on it no one knew anything. When a customer service rep called to insure I was happy so far, I again questioned about the account and expressed I thought they were a waste of money, he said he'd "look into it" never another word from anyone. We just got another very good offer from another of our creditors. The bottom line is this, the creditors will deal with you direct, no need to pay someone $4500.00 to do your talking, it's another 4500 you could use to actually pay those who have it coming. But I'm stuck in it, get to pay them $278. A month for 8 more months because they helped with one account. Beware of debt settlement companies, they are all about their own profit. You can negotiate it all yourself
