Collection Letter Listed an Account Number That Is Not Mine

I contacted Portfolio Recovery Associates LLC both by e-mail and then with a phone call requesting they send me proof of my opening the disputed account. I informed them that I had had an account with the company in question back in the early 1990's but it was paid off and closed and I also told them the account number in their letter was not mine! They asked me to give them the account number I had, and lots of personal information about me (to help me discover if a fraud was being perpetrated on me) and told them, "No, you give me the correct info and proof that I owed the debt or stop sending me letters!" I started receiving these letters the summer of '09. There is nothing on my credit report about this account. I even called the company I was supposed to be owing the debt to and they said they have no record of my account! I still get letters from Portfolio Recovery Associates!
